Terminal Velocity - Prix de Rome Architecture 2026

SlowFlow | mind the space”

-entry for Prix de Rome 2026-

The proposed entry “SlowFlow | Mind the Space” has been submitted for the Prix de Rome Architecture 2026, organised by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie under the theme “Terminal Velocity”.

Responding to this year’s theme - defined as a condition in which accelerating ecological, technological and social systems push architecture to its limits - the project takes a critical position on speed-driven, image-led production in contemporary practice. It reframes “terminal velocity” not as collapse, but as a point of suspension where acceleration stabilizes and perception can re-emerge.

The proposal argues for deceleration as a spatial and perceptual necessity. It proposes architecture as an interface between environmental forces and embodied experience, where wind, sound, water and material behaviour become active design agents rather than background conditions.

The outcome is a 30×30×30 cm experimental field model situated in Houthaven, Amsterdam, which operates as a perceptual instrument rather than a representation. It translates invisible environmental dynamics into spatial relations, revealing how the city is shaped by forces that are usually unperceived.

Ultimately, the project proposes a shift in architectural practice: from producing objects to cultivating awareness by designing not for image or speed, but for attention, sensing and ecological intelligence.

Tides of Transition - A portal between land and sea 2025

“TIDES OF TRANSITION :

a portal between land and sea”

-entry open call Between Land and Sea by Fondazione Studio Rizoma-

As part of the 2025 open call by Fondazione Studio Rizoma,Between Land and Sea explores the Mediterranean coastline as a living threshold where natural forces and human narratives continuously shape one another.

The proposal imagines the shoreline not as a fixed boundary, but as a fluid and ever-evolving space of exchange, tension, and transformation. Through layers of translucent fabric suspended within a delicate framework, the installation recreates the shifting dialogue between terrestrial and marine landscapes. Earth-toned veils merge with deep ocean blues, evoking the geological and cultural morphologies of the Mediterranean coast.

Animated by controlled air currents, the fabrics move like tides and winds sculpting the shoreline itself, embodying erosion, transformation, and the fragile balance between permanence and change. Visitors are invited to walk through an open corridor at the center of the installation — a symbolic portal between land and sea — where light, movement, and texture create an immersive sensory experience.

Between Land and Sea reflects on coexistence, adaptation, and the interconnected relationship between environment, culture, and identity. By transforming observation into participation, the project encourages new ways of perceiving borders: not as divisions, but as spaces of encounter, negotiation, and continuous becoming.

Beyond Borders - Zanzibar

‘‘BEYOND BORDERS in ZANZIBAR: Challenging Boundaries, Connecting Community, Culture Identity and Environment’’

- residency program in collaboration with STAWI, Zanzibar 2024/2025-

The project explores the connections between community, tradition, and the environment, challenging conventional boundaries of space and time. It examines both tangible and intangible relationships between people and place, focusing on how local values and practices embody a collective awareness of ecological and social responsibility.

Through a Sensory Participatory Ethnographic Approach, the project co-creates with the local community, using photography, sound, and visual art to document and celebrate Zanzibar’s unique cultural connection to its environment.

The project aims to highlight on how these relationships shape not only daily life but also broader social and ecological values, offering a sensory and immersive exploration of the community’s connection to its surroundings.

REACTOR | living laboratory for circular transition

- reimagining industrial heritage through circular urban transformation -

- project in collaboration with NEW ENVIRONMENTS, Atelier MASS, BLU.works, SAH -

The project “REACTOR / RULMENTUL: Living Laboratory for Circular Transition” received the 1st Mention among 32 entries in the international competition dedicated to the transformation of the former Rulmentul industrial platform in Brașov.

The proposal envisions a new ecological and social framework for one of Romania’s largest post-industrial sites, transforming it into a resilient urban landscape where nature, infrastructure, community life, and productive spaces coexist. Structured around the principles of circular transition, the project introduces a network of green corridors, restored waterways, mixed-use neighborhoods, productive landscapes, and public spaces designed to reconnect people with the environment and with each other.

Inspired by the site’s industrial heritage and the surrounding natural landscape, the masterplan proposes a gradual transition from rigid industrial infrastructure toward a more adaptive and regenerative urban ecosystem. Through the integration of biodiversity, water-sensitive design, mobility networks, and community-oriented public realms, the project aims to create a future-proof district that supports sustainable living while fostering social interaction, local identity, and ecological awareness.

Developed through an international multidisciplinary collaboration, the proposal explores how former industrial territories can become catalysts for environmental regeneration, circular economies, and inclusive urban development, setting a forward-looking example for sustainable transformation in Romania.
